This month's article was titled Escaping the Path to Nowhere.  Indecision and inaction are the path to nowhere.  If you don't decide to do something and then take action, you'll be sitting on the sidelines the rest of your life.  As discussed, there are three decisions you can make for any issue.  You can say Yes, No or Maybe and they each have a consequence.  So, this week let's look at your Yes decisions.

"When you say "Yes" to others, make sure you are not saying "No" to yourself." ---Paulo Coelho

When we were little, we learned that pleasing other people brought smiles, hugs, happiness, and sometimes rewards which are good things.  With that in mind, we developed a habit of wanting to make other people happy by saying "Yes" to requests, favors, and projects even when it was something we didn't want to do.  This can lead to having a schedule packed with things you are doing for others more than yourself.

Today's Coaching Challenge

Are you saying "Yes" to other people more than to yourself and your desires?  If your answer is more for other people, are you feeling like you are getting the short end of the stick and wishing that you honored yourself more?

You not only have the right to do things that you want to do, it also bolsters your self-esteem.  The first person you have to take care of you. Your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects can only be maintained by you.

Action to take

Even if your schedule is overbooked (a topic for another issue) start each day by deciding what one thing you want to do for yourself.  Honor yourself by taking that walk, reaching out to a loved one, or reading your favorite book.  You'll be surprised how your outlook changes when you say "Yes" to yourself.
